As Director of the HHS Office on Disability, I am delighted to note that there has been such a positive commitment in HHS to the law mandating the accessibility of Electronic and Information Technology, often referred to as “Section 508”. As you know, Secretary Leavitt is committed to developing the highest standards in Electronic & Information Technology services to our employees and members of the public, including those with disabilities.
The Implementation policy was signed by Secretary Thompson on Jan 6 th, 2005, and is in complete alignment with the President’s Management agenda, the New Freedom Initiative, and the Secretary’s strategic goals for our Department.
The HHS Office on Disability is responsible for coordinating HHS activity regarding Section 508, and to provide technical assistance in implementation planning and activities. You are encouraged to contact our Office with questions via email at Donna.Hawkins@hhs.gov.
